Information about yourself that you'd like to share: Wally: I was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army plus elected to the Illinois “Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame.”

Valentina: To my very pleasant surprise before graduation in 1970, I received a very thoughtful and caring “Thank You” letter and the enclosed “Belated Thanks” poem written for me by Michael Sullivan, class of 1970. I was so impressed by Michael’s remarkable talent, I had the poem transferred in calligraphy by George Wood. To this day I often think of Michael with fond memories and have proudly displayed the poem in our home library for over 40 years.

The most important thing I learned thus far in my lifetime:  I have learned to enjoy life every, every minute. One is only as happy as (he or she) makes up (his or her) mind to be.

Information about yourself that you'd like to share: My wife and I retired in 1982 (FVHS & Wheeling Elementary), whereby we moved to our 40 acre farm in Urbana, Missouri and built our dream log home (and barn) with the help of two of our neighbors. We raised alfalfa and hay for our dairy farm neighbors, planted some 5,000 trees over an 11 year period. Meanwhile, we did volunteer work with Cambodian and Viet Namese children in Springfield, MO. After 11 years we sold the farm and most of our possessions and spent over five consecutive years doing full time volunteer work for the Presbyterian colleges in Alaska and North Carolina. In 1997, we returned to Illinois and settled in Woodstock. We have done volunteer work for our church, PADS (Homeless folks), DAP (Direct Assistance Program) helping local folks. I am presently a CASA worker (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children. I have been working with the McHenry County Court as a CASA for more than three years. My wife also works at the local food pantry. In 2000, we spent five weeks studying at John Paul II University of Lublin (Poland). The months of July 2002 and 2004, we taught English to Polish high school students at Torun, Poland. This was a wonderful adventure for us. It was just like teaching in the 1950’s again! Each of us has written and self published our autobiographies for our children and grandchildren. We had these posted on our website:  www.dickandaudrey.com for friends and family. We have both been active in the Polish Genealogical Society of America for several years. I am presently acting as Vice-president of the PGSA Board of Directors. This year we both celebrated our 83rd birthdays by giving each other a cruise to Alaska. Neither of us knows what we will be when we grow up. ETC!

Information about yourself that you'd like to share: I loved my years teaching at FVHS. Carole and I have both been retired since 1999.  We are enjoying this newer part of our lives.  I love hunting and fishing and relaxing with my wife of 45 years and spending time with our children and friends. We have also traveled extensively, since retiring.
